Headmaster Tom calls for Marie. When she finally appears he tells her to bend over his desk for a quick punishment. She questions him but he insists she lay down on the table before he tells her what is the matter. When she is prone he shows her a letter. All Marie can say is "oh no."
He brings out the paddle and carpet beater and proceeds to address her bare bottom. Her pleas go nowhere as she weeps on the desk. Eventually he is finished with her and she sinks to the floor, mindful of her still smarting bottom. But, before sending her to bed, Headmaster throws down pieces of a torn up letter, which she gathers before she leaves.
